Thanks to selling my construction company, my dream of owning an old farmhouse in southern Sweden finally came true. Sometimes things are just meant to be, we looked at this magical place on a Tuesday afternoon and by the following Monday we signed the papers. We were one of seven bidders and not the high bid but the agent and the seller loved my three boys and that our roots were originally from this area. They saw a family that would take care of the place they had cherished since 1968.
There was a main building that they had used as their home away from home. The little house, which was originally the main living quarters, had become storage and was falling into disrepair. This became our first challenge and adventure.
We took this old farmhouse, originally built some time in the 1820s down to the framing and started all over. New insulation, new siding, new windows etc.. Before we went there this last summer I installed the kitchen so now it is a fully functional little house for our three boys and friends.
We also built a shed to keep the tools and the sit down mower safe from the harsh winters in this part of the world.
Next up was my wife’s art studio, what an amazing feeling to be able to make her this happy and excited by creating her own little space in this paradise. Now we can start to plan our art retreats, Landscape and Light. The first week we will offer will be June 1 through June 8, 2025.
Next will be the big house with a new kitchen, some new floors and removing a wall so I can install the fireplace, for cozy evenings in a bigger room meant for dinners and family gatherings. The best part is that Joel, my partner in this construction company, wants to come with me (and bring his parents) to do this last bit of work.
Enjoy the pictures and I will keep posting as things happen.
Thanks for being curious.
